Design and Social Responsibility: a dialog

Named by Fast Company as one of the “change agents... designers, & dreamers who are creating your future,” Eva L. Maddox is a Principal of Perkins+Will and the founder of Perkins+Will | Eva Maddox Branded Environments™ Ms. Maddox created the Branded Environments discipline, utilizing a research-based design approach that identifies & integrates a client’s DNA into tangible brand expres­sions, experiences and environments. She has provided Branded Environments services to many leaders within the cor­porate, education, healthcare and civic arenas, including such notable clients as DuPont, Olgivy & Mather, Haworth, Bank of America, Northwestern University, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum and the Museum of Science & Industry.

Eva received her Bachelor of Science in Design in 1966 from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Art, Architecture & Planning. She is a member of the University of Cincinnati Foundation Board of Trustees, currently serving on the Development Committee, as well as a member of DAAP’s Advisory Board for the Study of the Practice of Architecture. In June 2006, Ms. Maddox was awarded a Doctorate of Fine Arts degree by the University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees.

Eva is frequently recognized for design excellence on a national and international basis, garnering over 100 awards to date. Her work has received the most “Big I” awards (nine) in the design industry. Projects are also frequently published in books and magazines, as well as featured in exhibitions such as the Art Institute of Chicago’s “Chicago Architecture: Ten Visions of the Future” (2004). 

In 1994 Eva co-founded Archeworks, with architect Stanley Tigerman where she teaches and serves as Program Director. In 2007 Eva was selected as a Purpose Prize Fellow by Civic Ventures.
