Kurumono Kitchen 1999-2000 In partnership with the advocacy group Access Living, the Archeworks team looked into how low cost living for the disabled can be improved and enhanced beyond the bounds of the present ADA laws. The team developed the Kurumono Kitchen, a radically new concept for the kitchen where everything comes to you. This approach allows for customization by each individual either in the process of ordering the product or by the inherent flexibility of the design itself. Kurumono, translated from a Japanese expression means things coming to you". This radically different concept will collapse the traditional kitchen work triangle, reducing the user movement to zero, while maximizing accessibility of storage space. These features represent a quantum leap in design not only for people with mobility impairments, people who are elderly, people with arthritis or other difficulties, but also for the able bodied.
