Certificate Program Admissions
Archeworks welcomes students from a broad range of disciplines, both design-related fields and otherwise. Each class is structured to include a diversity of backgrounds, skills and aptitudes. We seek students who embrace the Archeworks philosophy of multi-disciplinary collaboration to create design solutions that benefit society and the environment.
How to Apply
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis but space is limited. Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply early. Candidates will be notified of admissions decision within 2-3 weeks after submission. An application for admission will not be considered complete until the following are received:
Statement of Interest
Please explain why you want to be part of Archeworks. (250 words max)
Please provide documentation of projects that you have been involved with from start to finish. Ideally these should be projects that you are passionate about and initiated or played a leadership role. Present a complete project narrative including the project goals and contextual information, your specific role in the project, project partners, the process used for testing ideas, and the project deliverables. The projects can be of any scale, from drawings and product design to research, organizational planning and policy work. We are interested in the intention and ‘craft’ behind your work.
This information can be delivered through your choice of medium including written, graphic, and audio/video format. The presentation should clearly describe the final product as well as critical elements of the creative process. Please submit as a PDF (10MB max). If you prefer another digital format, please contact Hilary Gabel to discuss.
We request transcripts from all institutions from which you received a degree or completed significant coursework. Transcripts may be sent directly from your school’s registrar, or included with your application submission. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
Please provide a recommendation from someone who has supervised your work, either professionally, academically, or through volunteer engagement.

Tuition and Fees
The Certificate Program tuition is $3,100. The Archeworks Board reserves the right to revise tuition rates as necessary.
Archeworks has limited funding to distribute for financial assistance in the form of work-study scholarships. To help us understand your need for financial aid, please complete and submit our Financial Assistance form with your application for admission, or after acceptance. Merit scholarships may be available on a case-by-case basis.
Archeworks has a fellowship program for employees of select Chicago-based design firms and other organizations. If you have been recommended by your employer for a fellowship, please complete the Certificate Program Fellowship form.
